Job Openings

Spectrum currently has immediate job openings. We are always looking for qualified people to join our team.

Voice Over IP (VoIP)

Voice over Internet Protocol, or VoIP, allows one to make telephone calls using a computer network, over a data network like the Internet rather than a public switched telephone network. VoIP converts the analog voice signal from your telephone into a digital signal that travels over the network then converts it back to at the other end so you can speak to anyone with a regular analog phone.

Currently, the most promising areas for VoIP are corporate intranets and commercial extranets. Their IP-based infrastructures enable operators to control who can and who cannot use the network. Corporations can reduce expenses associated with high-volume voice, fax, and video conferencing traffic.

The economics of placing all traffic- data, voice, and video- over an IP-based network will pull companies in this direction, simply because IP will act as a unifying agent, regardless of the underlying architecture (i.e. leased lines, frame relay, or PRI) of an organization’s network.

Video Conferencing

Spectrum Solutions provides customers with the right products for their conferencing needs for group video conferencing or personal video conferencing.

Top quality audio and video empowers businesses to communicate with customers and colleagues form around the world as if they are in the same room.

Firewall and Intrusion Detection

There are a variety of threats on the Internet today, some attempting to attack and compromise you or your organizations. Worms, auto-rooters, and viruses aggressively search for and find vulnerabilities. Network intrusion detection ensures that only authorized users are able to enter your network. Spectrum Solutions can provide the tools to alert users when a predator is probing your network. We can provide comprehensive network intrusion management and prevention systems, align threat management with your business, virus protection, spam control, URL filtering, data confidentiality monitoring, vulnerability management, and many other network protection systems.

Firewalls are used as a preventative device. They can often eliminate the problem before it begins. Hackers continue to seek and find ways to enter your network environment. Firewalls help protect users from network attacks when connected to hostile networks, such as the Internet or a VPN, especially those connected for hours or even days at a time (DSL or cable users). The longer you’re on the network, the more likely you’re computer will be attacked.

LANs and WANs

A local area network (LAN) is a computer network in a small geographic area, like a home, office, or building. Each resource or computer on the LAN can function on its own or it can also access other devices on the LAN given the proper permission and configuration.

A wide area network (WAN) is a geographically dispersed telecommunications network. The largest and most well-known example of a WAN is the Internet. The term distinguishes a broader telecommunications structure from a LAN. A WAN is used to connect LANs and other network types together, so users in one location can communicate with resources and users in the other location. A wide area network may be privately owned or rented, but the term usually connotes the inclusions of public networks. An intermediate form of network in terms of geography is a metropolitan area network (MAN). All of these require certain electronics to complete the connections and also require certain cabling to enable end-user connections.

Spectrum Solutions can provide a site survey, the network design, the cabling, as well as configuring electronics so that customer communication needs are met.

Virtual Private Network (VPN)

Today, more than ever, employees need to have remote access to the company network. More companies are creating a more global market. Many companies have facilities spread out across the country or around the world. They are looking for a way to maintain fast, secure, and reliable communications wherever their offices are. This can be accomplished using a virtual private network or VPN. A VPN utilizes public wires to connect nodes. Many VPN’s are set up to enable users to create networks using the Internet as the medium for transporting data. These systems use encryption and other security mechanisms to ensure that only authorized users can access the network and that the data cannot be intercepted.

Security is a very important element to the VPN. Spectrum Solutions can help ensure such security protections using firewalls and/or intrusion detection.

Engineering Design (RCDD)

Spectrum Solutions recognizes the importance of having industry certified network specialists. RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer) certification is an industry recognized standard for superiority and proficiency in aspects of LAN design to include design, integration, and implementation of telecommunications (voice, data, video, audio, and other low-voltage control) transport systems and their related infrastructure components.

Rapid growth and technological advancements have created a high demand for those who are able to demonstrate their expertise in LAN design. RCDD/LAN Specialty candidates are rigorously tested on their ability to understand and apply a vast collection of information-assembled from many sources that are continually changing and developing.

BICSI is a not-for-profit association assisting telecommunications professionals with their careers by providing training, certification, conferences, and publications in the design and installation of voice, data, and video technologies. BICSI certified professionals must re-test every three years, staying up-to-date on new technologies through seminars and training. In addition, Active RCDDs have continuous access to the latest information in the telecommunications design industry.

The training provided to RCDDs makes them a cut above other network designer. Many bid specifications require that an RCDD be assigned to the task. It is a way to ensure that your network design and installation provides reliable connections for your place of business.
